Three models, three jobs
The biggest change from earlier generations is that "v6" names a family rather than a model. Picking one is a real decision.

What the models can do that earlier ones could not
Suno's announcement centres on editing rather than raw generation. The pattern across all six: change part of a song without regenerating the whole thing.
Edit a section in plain language
Describe the change you want to a chosen part of a track instead of re-rolling the entire song and hoping the rest survives.
Change one lyric
Update a single lyric without rebuilding the track around it — the fix that previously cost you the whole take.

The part that is not about sound
Every Suno release until now was a model release. v6 is also a licensing event: Suno describes it as the first generation developed together with music rightsholders, naming Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe as partners.
Suno has also indicated that tracks made with the industry-partner model become eligible for distribution through Believe and TuneCore. If you plan to release commercially, that provenance question may matter more than any audio comparison — but distribution eligibility is a separate thing from the commercial terms attached to whichever Suno tier you are on. Check both.
Where API access stands
v6 launched inside the Suno app, and the announcement says nothing about programmatic access — Suno still publishes no API of its own. The models are a separate question: since 9 September 2026 AI Music API serves all three, as chirp-v6, chirp-v6-wild and chirp-v6-mini. Suno retired v3.5 through v5.5 on its own platform the same day, so those ids stay valid here and are mapped to v6 upstream — nothing you already run had to change, and the credit cost did not move. The one thing worth knowing is that a request naming an older model is no longer rendered by that model.
